UDP Example: VLC

VLC is a free and open source media player with streaming capabilities. Using VLC, this example shows how to stream the output from a webcam to a different machine via Rely.

On Ubuntu vlc can be installed with the following command:

sudo apt install vlc

Video Receiver (10.0.0.1)

application:

cvlc udp://@:9090

tunnel:

./rely udp --application-out 127.0.0.1:9090 --tunnel-in 10.0.0.1:44321

Webcam Sender (10.0.0.2)

tunnel:

./rely udp --application-in 127.0.0.1:8080 --tunnel-out 10.0.0.1:44321

application:

cvlc v4l2://:width=640:height=480/dev/video0 --sout '#transcode{vcodec=mp2v,vb=1024,acodec=ne}:std{access=udp{caching=10},mux=raw,dst=127.0.0.1:8080}'

The video should now appear on the Video Receiver‘s screen.

Note

this example can also be run on a single host by using 127.0.0.1 as IP for tunnel-in and tunnel-out.
